Pink Mojito Granita

Sweets

Mojitos are always irresistible; this one is non- alcoholic and frozen, which makes it the best cool down drink after a run through the countryside. The original recipe will give you a granita that looks like a real mojito. If you want it pink like in the picture above, just before serving throw it into your blender with a couple of spoons of a berry sorbet. Mojito Granita (original recipe by David Lebovitz) 2 1/2 […]

Louisa’s favourite (so far): Roasted Banana Ice Cream

Sweets

I came back from hot Florence filled with  inspirations for cold delights such as extravagantly flavoured ice creams, sorbets and granitas. Black Sesame and Ginger Ice Cream are still on my to-try list. For a start I experimented with roasted bananas (ice cream) and cantaloupe (granita). My daughter Louisa, who has just arrived from England, instantly fell for the roasted banana ice cream because of its melting smoothness and the rich and sweet banana flavour. […]

My dear readers, this is not a joke, I really mean one hundred cookies!   Antje passed by and brought me a nice little paper bag filled with some super healthy cookies. Grandma’s Classics: Weincreme

Sweets

Another delicacy is Weincreme . Life in a wine growing region ( Grandma is from Heidelberg )  requires  a well stocked fridge with open bottles of wine, and desserts like “Weincreme”  belong to the traditional repertoire of any housewife. In very special occasions (baptism, wedding, famous guests) Grandma even replaces Chantilly  by Weincreme to accompany her homemade apple cake. Weincreme (Sabayon) yields 4 servings 8 tbs sugar ( Grandma takes 4-6) 4 whole eggs 1 […]

Drinks / Jams + Preserves / Sweets

My green walnut liqueur experiment finished and bottled! Of course I gave it to taste to all my friends who passed by. Here is a short collection of their judgements: could be sweeter! is this meant to be a medicine or just for fun? nice for Tiramisu with a touch of nut a bit rough, has it any healing effect? perfect with vanilla ice cream next year you should make more of those little bottles […]

Making Scones

Cakes + Cookies / Sweets

Another recipe from the famous Rose Bakery in Paris! For quite a while I have fancied Rose’s maple syrup scones. When my daughter and our friend Lenka felt like trying out some new recipes for a tea party I seized my opportunity and suggested the scones. Equipped with the BREAKFAST-LUNCH-TEA cookbook and all the necessary ingredients and tools, making scones for the first time went very smooth. Rose Carrarini doesn’t exaggerate saying that these scones smell like […]

Rose Carrarini’s Rhubarb and Orange

Sweets

Obviously I should give up the idea of a whole Menu in Pink and go instead for  easier things like photographing pink walls and pink glasses or simply a pink dessert.. Rose Carrarini’s Rhubarb and Orange is prepared in a moment,  looks beautiful and has been so delicious that tomorrow I’ll go and buy more of those lovely sticks. Why not give it a try with lemon as well? Rose Carrarini’s  Rhubarb and Orange 5 sticks rhubarb, trimmed […]

My friend’s plum tree was having a good year, in fact so good that Michaela found it impossible to eat all the plums herself. I transformed the basket of plums into this delicious, melting-in-your-mouth cream. Michaela’s original recipe contains 10 tbs of rum, I just used 4 tbs and still didn’t feel too sure if driving is still ok. Have a try yourselves with as many tbs of rum you think you can handle! 500g plums […]
